Au Cœur d'Acren is located 300m from the Ravel/EuroVelo 5 cycling roads and the Dender river and 400m from the train station. From here, you can travel by bike, train or car to Pairi Daiza, Ghent, Brussels, Mons, Tournai or Geraardsbergen (with its Flemish cycling classics) and of course visit the renowned hospital Our Lady with the Rose in Lessines. All of this after a tasty regional breakfast.

The Bienvenue Vélo label ,which means "Welcome bike", stands for services and facilities adapted to welcoming cycling tourits in Wallonia. A Bienvenue Vélo  establishment quarantees an ideal place to stop and a warm welcome. Cycling tourists will find everything they need:

- a secure and sheltered space
- a work area with repair kit/tools/bike pump/high-pressure cleaner
- a first aid kit
- informations and tips for dinner
- the option of a packed lunch
- leaflets and maps with cycling and walking routes

EuroVelo 5

More than a thousand years ago, pilgrims travelled from England to Rome, after which they continued to Jerusalem, via the port of Brindisi and the ancient Via Appia. You can follow in their footsteps by bike along the EuroVelo 5: This version of the route counts 3200 km and crosses 7 countries (via London, Calais, Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Basel, Milan, Siena, Rome and Brindisi)!

The Flemish Ardennes and the Pays des Collines

This region, located between the Scheldt and Dender rivers, is rich in nature and characterised by its hilly scenery. It is called "Pays des Collines" along the French-speaking side and "Flemish Ardennes" along the Flemish side. This region is a paradise for cycling tourists and known for its climbs (Muur van Geraardsbergen, Bosberg, Mont de l'Enclus/Kluisberg, La Houppe/Pottelberg, ...) and cycling races.

The nodes network

With more than 1600 kilometres of signposted routes in Picardy Wallonia, the nodes network covers the 23 municipalities of the territory. It consists mainly of asphalted, low-traffic rural roads and roads for vulnerable road users. This network is linked to the Walloon cycle routes and neighbouring Flemish and French junction networks.

The RAVeL (Réseau Autonome des Voies Lentes) consists of green roads built mainy on towpaths and former railway lines. The more than 1,480km of paths are reserved for pedestrians, cyclists, horses and people with reduces mobility

  • Pairi Daiza : Pairi Daiza was voted the best zoo in Europe. Its more than 7000 animals are located in a beautiful environment that represents all the different continents! It is located 19 km from here. You can get there by car (25 min) or by train (28 min, station at 400 m)

  • Hôpital Notre-Dame à la Rose (Lessines) : This hospital convent from the Middle Ages, one of the oldest hospitals in Europe, is part of the Exceptional Heritage list of Wallonia (Patrimoine majeur de Wallonie) as a magnificent museum and is currently in the recognition process of UNESCO! This majestic and authentic architectural building with its thousand facets is worth a visit: the baroque chapel, the convent, the gardens, the infirmary, ... An impressive place not to be missed entirely dedicated to the care of the soul and the body (5 minutes away by car or train).

  • The PorphyrY Quarries (Lessines) : Lessines a compté jusqu’à 21 carrières qui employaient ± 5000 ouvriers . L’exploitation actuelle est concentrée sur la production de concassé calibré pour les chemins de fer. Actuellement, 2 carrières sont encore en exploitation et emploient +/- 100personnes

  • The park of Enghien: An exceptional site considered one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe in the 17th century.
